Among all the motor shows, Geneva International Motor Show falls in the court of one of the most promising and famous ones. It has been producing motor shows for more than a decade and has been part of the culture.
Although this year and last year due to Covid-19 the event got canceled. But apart from that Geneva International Motor Show has given some iconic and mesmerizing moments to their fans out there.
There’s no doubt, Geneva International Motor Show is considered as one of the biggest events of the year and that’s why today we are going to look back at its history of it.
Geneva International Motor Show
Geneva International Motor Show is the annual grand show held in March in the Swiss city of Geneva. In the year 1905, from 29 April to 7 May the first-ever Geneva International Motor Show was held, where the salon hosted almost all major internal combustion-engined models in the history of the automobile.
Although exotic supercars grabbed little attention at the debut of the show. In the event, prototypes, new equipment, technical breakthroughs, international partnerships, as well as political and social debates, have been announced at the exhibition which made the event more successful.
It was a big success for the Geneva International Motor Show because in Switzerland there’s already a lack of automobile companies and still managed to produce this event.
With almost its 37 stands welcomed over 17,000 visitors and the Confederation sent Federal Councillor Ludwig Forrer to the inauguration.
Although the third event took place in Zurich, in 1907. The Geneva International Motor Shows have been a big success, when the fourth event was held it led to the creation of the Standing Committee of the International Motor Show in Geneva on 23 November 1923.
Sooner the venue also got better and the motor show grew rapidly. Its new venue opened close to the airport and the current CFF railway station Palexpo. Over the past years, the attendance of the audience reached the 600,000 visitors marked in 1988.
in 2000, about 700,000 attendance was marked and at the 75th event in 2005, it broke the record 747,700 admissions.
Because of its rapid success, many of the elite automakers took part in the motor show over the decade and that’s the reason it falls in the top 5 Auto Shows to attend in 2021.

For the past two years, the 90th Geneva International Award has been canceled due to pandemics and as per the sources 2022 event was also canceled as well.
